During the holiday weekend of the 12th – 14th of June, MWGC had 3 boys competing at the 2010 MG Senior State Championships and it turned out to be an awesome weekend of gymnastics for our boys.
In the level 7 open event Joel Brown and Cameron Malone were outstanding. When you consider that both these boys competed under 12’s last year, this was quite a big step up for them.
After 2 trials both boys had secured a place on the NSW team to compete at this year’s National Championships in Canberra, so all we were hoping for was a possible couple of apparatus medals. As usual the guys did not let us down.
At the end of the Competition, Cameron was 2nd overall in the All Round event with Joel just behind in 4th place overall.
On Floor Cameron finished in 3rd position and took the bronze medal. Then on pommels both Cameron and Joel both placed equal 1st, and on P.Bars Cameron placed 3rd.
In all the boys finished in the top 6 in every apparatus so it was a fantastic result for them both
In Level 6 U/12 event Julian Horrocks had a great competition and just like his team mates before him, kept getting better and stronger with every competition. At State Championships Julian placed 7th overall and also secured a position on the NSW Team to compete at National Championships in July.
In the junior ranks at the club we have a huge array of talent and without doubt we are one of the strongest boys clubs in the state.
With NSW holding their 1st Grand Prix Event of the season MWGC sent along in total 25 boys to compete in various divisions.
So Starting in Level 2 age we had Warner Parsons finishing in 3rd place in the all round event and team mate Jesse Green just behind in 4th.
Thomas Sakellaris who was competing for the 1st time in level 2 open had an awesome day and finished in 2nd place overall.
In Level 3 Age Ewen McConville was outstanding. At only 7 years old, Ewen competes in the under 9 division and showed the field just how good a gymnast this young man is. Ewen placed in the top 3 in every apparatus and was 1st overall in the all round event.
Another Gymnast competing for the 1st time for MWGC was Kedar Gu. Placing in the top 6 in almost every apparatus Kedar finished in 3rd place overall in Level 3 age and James McCrindle just behind in 4th.
In Level 3 open we had 2 boys competing for the very first time and once again they led the field.
Jonathon Harry placed 1st overall in the All round and Team Mate Ben Dempsey was just behind him in 2nd place overall. It really was a fantastic effort from these 2 boys.
The final session of the day saw our level 4 & 5 boys compete and like everyone else this weekend they were in great form.
Nathan Drabbe Placed 2nd overall in the all round and team mate Braden Maconachie was just behind in 4th place... As well as this Nathan placed in the top 3 on almost every apparatus with Braden placing 3rd on 3 apparatus.
This weekend’s event was also a qualifier for Level 1 – 5 State Championships in August and the awesome news was that all of our boys who competed in the grand prix have qualified.
