Women’s Gymnastics (WAG)
Women’s Gymnastics involves four Olympic apparatus (Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor). Gymnastics Australia offers two separate pathways run nationally, International Levels Program (ILP) and National Levels Program (NLP). At MWGC we offer both these pathways on selection.
Positions in our two competitive programs are limited and are offered to only a small number of gymnasts. Accepting a position provides many opportunities and therefore selection should be considered a great achievement.
To be selected into one of our competition pathways our gymnasts work through our Foundation Program from a young age.
Under 5’s STARS (Mini and Little Stars) program
Our Mini and Little Stars classes are offered by invitation only, to gymnasts who show natural talent in our under 5s program. These classes prepare gymnasts for the foundation program, which is the pathway into our National and International competitive levels.
Classes are structured around further developing fundamental gymnastic skills that are more specific to Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. This program aims to improve gymnast’s technique, strength and skill progressions that are of a high standard, in preparation for competitive gymnastics.
Mini STARS (3-4 years) 1 hour per week
Little STARS (4-5 years) 1.5 hours per week
Foundation (Mighty STARS) Program
Our foundation program is a skills based platform that forms the basis of the WAG competitive program. At MWGC, the Foundation Program has been named the Mighty STARS program. It is an invitation only class for talented and ambitious young gymnasts, selected from our Under 5’s STARS or recreational programs.
The Mighty STARS program is divided into three progressive stages that facilitate gymnasts to develop, refine, and prepare for competitions in the National or International programs. Gymnasts attend skill and strength based carnivals each year that allow coaches to competitively assess each individual’s progressions and improvements. This program has been designed to be the stepping stones into the WAG competitive program.
Stage 1 (Mighty Stars) 4 hrs per week
Stage 2 (Mighty Stars) 4.5 hrs per week
Stage 3 (Mighty Stars) 5 hrs per week
National Levels Program
Our National Levels program is designed to cater for all girls who have an interest in competitive gymnastics. Whether your goal is to represent NSW at National Championships or compete in a local invitational, we can help you achieve your goals.
At MWGC we base our groups on age, ability and individual goals. Our gymnasts will have the opportunity to compete at club, regional and state level from level 3 – level 10. From level 7 gymnasts have the opportunity to be selected to represent their state at a national level.
At MWGC our coach’s primary aim is to assist in the progress and development of each individual athlete and offer them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
International Levels Program
MWGC’S International Levels program has been developed for exceptionally talented gymnasts. Entry into the MWGC IL program will be by invitation and assessment by some our most senior WAG coaches. This program requires hard work, extensive hours (18+) sacrifice and dedication from gymnasts, and in return the program offers gymnasts the chance to compete at an International level.
Our IL program follows a level based system that allows gymnasts to compete from IL4, all the way up to Junior and Senior International. Gymnasts skills are regularly reviewed and assessed by some of Australia’s National Head Coaches via an online skill based system.
Gymnasts, who achieve high results in their skills testing, can become eligible to attend clinics with some of the country’s best coaches and athletes.
It is the aim of MWGC and the IL coaching team to offer our members the best of our resources, knowledge and experience for the gymnasts to succeed in the IL program.
Here at MWGC we will endeavour to teach them well and to guide them to the highest standard achievable.
